Hardwick Village Survey

November 18th, 2016

Welcome to the Hardwick Village Survey.

If you have recently received a yellow postcard with a reminder about the village survey, please note that due to a printing error, some postcards have an incorrect password printed on them.  If the password printed on the card that you have received only contains four characters, please add the number 7 at the end of the printed password to make a total of 5 letters and numbers.  If you are having any difficulty getting into the survey or entering your password,  email help@hardwickplan.uk explaining the problem that you are experiencing.

Although we appreciate that you may be keen to get started, if you are under 18, you must obtain the consent of your parent or guardian before completing our survey.

You will need to enter a password to access the on-line survey.  If you live, work or study in Hardwick, enter the first five characters of your Hardwick home, office or school postcode (upper case letters and no spaces). If you don’t have a Hardwick address or don’t know your postcode, email help@hardwickplan.uk for a code, including a brief explanation of why you are eligible to complete the survey.

There is a lot more information lower down this page about the survey, including some notes on problem solving if you have difficulties. We do encourage you to read through this information first as it might save you time later, but if you just want to get started…….

How can I take part?

There are several ways in which you can complete the survey:

1.  If you are 13 or over, you can complete the main survey on-line by clicking on the link below. (See the note above or below this section for details of the password needed to access the survey.)

 Hardwick Village Survey (online version).

2a. You can download and print a copy of the main survey by clicking on the link below (Please note that you cannot fill in the PDF copy of the main survey electronically on your computer.  If you click on this link, you will need to print out the survey and fill it in by hand.)

2b. To complete the youth survey (aimed at 11 to 16 year olds) electronically, please download and open it using a suitable application such as ‘Adobe Reader’ (or similar). There is a link to download Adobe Reader in our ‘Problem Solving’ section below. You can download a copy of the youth survey  by clicking on the link below:

Hardwick Village Youth Survey

If you wish to hand write your answers, you will need to download and then print the document. Additional guidance on completing the village youth survey is available in the section ‘How to complete the Youth Survey’ below.

3. You can request a paper copy of the Village Survey by contacting our secretary by email at bettyg@hardwickplan.uk

Where possible, we ask respondents that are 13 and over and intending to complete the main survey to do so on-line as this saves paper and reduces the effort needed to enter and analyse the survey answers.

Completed paper copies of the survey may be returned to one of the collection points in the Blue Lion, the Sports and Social Club or the School Office.

What is the password to enter the survey?

If you do not have the code to hand, when asked for a password, enter the first five characters of your Hardwick home or office postcode (upper case letters and no spaces). If you don’t have a Hardwick address, don’t know your postcode or are having difficulty starting the survey, email help@hardwickplan.uk for a code, including a brief explanation of why you are eligible to complete the survey.

What is the Survey for?

By completing the survey you can influence the future of Hardwick over the next 10-15 years.  The survey has been prepared and published by an independent group of Hardwick residents working in a voluntary capacity.  It is important because it will enable us to learn what you would like to see in the Village in the coming years.

Who Should Complete the Survey?

We want to receive completed surveys from everyone that lives in, works in, studies in, or regularly visits Hardwick.  Ideally, it will not be just one survey per household. In addition to the main survey, we have also created a shorter survey targeted at young people in the village between the ages of 11 and 16.  Please encourage other people that you know in Hardwick to complete a survey.

What will my Survey answers be used for?

Survey returns will be validated and the answers analysed to identify the views of our community.  We will only use the survey answers to inform Community planning in Hardwick.

Will my Personal Data be Safe?

If you provide your personal details, they will only be used for the purpose of Community planning in Hardwick.

What if I am under 18?

If you are under 18 you should obtain permission from your Parent or Guardian before completing and returning either the main or the youth survey.  By completing either survey, you are confirming that you have obtained the required permission.

If you are between 11 and 16 but would prefer to complete the more detailed Village Survey, you are welcome to do so, however, you do need to be 13 or over to complete the on-line version of the main survey.  If you are under 13 and have your parent’s or guardian’s permission you can still fill in a paper copy of the main survey.

What if I want more information before completing  the survey?

We have added a page on our website where we are gathering and providing information that may inform you about some of the topics addressed in the survey.  We intend adding to this page throughout the duration of the survey. Click here to open this page.

What if I have difficulty accessing or completing the on-line survey?

The on-line survey is hosted by one of the leading providers of survey tools and should work with the majority of computing devices, operating systems and web browsers. If you have difficulty using the on-line survey, please see the ‘Problem Solving’ section at the bottom of this page.

Do I have to complete the on-line survey in a single session?

The on-line survey has been configured such that closing your browser part way through completing the survey should not lose the answers that you have already entered.  Provided that you re-enter the survey on the same device using the same user account and web browser as your previous session, you should resume the survey at the point where you previously left it.

How long does the survey take to complete?

Testing prior to launch indicates that the on-line survey usually takes around an hour to complete. However, if you want to think more deeply about your answers or to provide a lot of additional information in the free text boxes, the time needed to complete the survey may become extended.

Why can’t I complete the On-Line Survey if I am under 13?

We understand that many young people will want and expect to complete the survey on-line but unfortunately, the company hosting our on-line survey has a rule that you have to be 13 or over to use their service. This is their rule, not ours.

How to complete the Youth Survey

Provided that you have opened the Youth Survey using a suitable application, answers can be entered directly into the document on your computer without having to print the document and hand-write your answers. Once completed in this way, the Youth Survey can be saved on your computer and then emailed to the address shown at the end of the survey. This will save the inconvenience of printing and delivering the completed survey to one of the collection points.

Problem Solving

In some circumstances users may find difficulty in accessing or completing the on-line survey. The most likely circumstance where difficulty might be encountered is if several people in a household or workplace all share the same user account on a single device.  In this scenario, once one person has completed the survey, further attempts to open the survey will result in a message indicating that the survey has already been completed. In these circumstances, each additional person wishing to complete the survey should email timd@hardwickplan.uk to request a special single-use log-in link to overcome this issue.

Both the Village Survey and the Village Youth Survey documents are in .PDF format.  Downloading and printing of these documents will require the use of a suitable application that can open PDF files.  If you do not have a suitable application already installed on your computer, you can download and install the Adobe Acrobat Reader application here. If you do not own the computer that you are using, please remember to get the permission of the owner before installing this software. We also recommend that you deselect the tick boxes inviting you to install optional offers before starting the installation. If you are using a tablet or other mobile device, a suitable app can usually be downloaded from the relevant app store.
